Smart Connection Light enables users to start working as a team with InDesign and InCopy supporting workflow by preventing mistakes and managing shared files on any file system accessible from InDesign and InCopy. Smart Connection enables a copy-driven or layout-driven workflow, or a mixture of both.
After creating a story within InDesign, send it to InCopy including (optionally) a preview of the remainder of the page. The contents of the story sent to InCopy is no longer editable within InDesign, only its geometry can be changed.
To let the InCopy user know that changes were made to the geometry of the story or to other items on the page, a so-called design update can be sent to InCopy by just pressing one button. The InCopy user will be notified automatically with a yellow exclamation sign on Smart Connection's design update panel.
One click on the design update button will incorporate the geometry changes and update the preview of the page. The InDesign links panel keeps track of the stories that have been sent to InCopy and will signal when a new version of a story is available.
When a story is finished within InCopy, press the reclaim button on the Smart Connection panel to update the text of the story and to make the story editable again within InDesign. With the refresh button the story can be intermediately updated without getting edit access.
Besides sending single stories, it is also possible to select multiple stories and send them as one InCopy document. There is no need to link these stories. This can be used, for example, to send the body of an article together with its heading to one InCopy document or to send all headings to one InCopy document.
Smart Connection offers the element tag panel to tag each story which eases handling within InCopy, especially when ending multiple stories at once. Within InCopy a panel, lists the tags of all editable stories; selecting one of the tags makes InCopy switch to that story both in layout and galley view.

Smart Connection Pro builds on InDesign and InCopy's power by expanding the feature-set with those features that are needed to manage publications in medium to large workgroups with up to 30 users.
Smart Connection Pro has an easy-to-use interface. While still using a generic file-server it organizes files with a more database-oriented approach. It uses more familiar concepts such as publication, issue, section, and basket. Users can set up a publication structure according to the guidelines and needs of a company or organization, even using site-specific terminology.
With its check-in, check-out features, Smart Connection Pro effectively separates the work of the designer from that of the editor. By doing so, Smart Connection Pro enables a simultaneous workflow. An InDesign user can't change the text of a document when an editor is working on it in InCopy. Text that is sent to InCopy can't be modified in InDesign for as long as it is checked out. In fact, as long as text is in use by an editor the only thing an InDesign user can do is change the design of the frames that will hold the locked text. An editor can't change design elements in InCopy because the designer is in charge of the InDesign document. Messing up publications has become virtually impossible.
Smart Connection Pro's preview panel provides a preview of stories or images. This enables users to efficiently select the right files, eliminating the need to undo accidental placements — saving valuable time.
A basket-oriented approach allows editors and designers to identify steps in the workflow. For example, when copy is ready to be corrected, send the text to a basket defined as Revision round. In fact, this is an automated communication paradigm, and is one way that Smart Connection Pro prevents errors during the production process. Another example is the ability for editors and designers to send each other short instant messages or add annotation notes to a text element.
The Smart Connection Pro Send to Next button available in InCopy allows editors to automatically send text to the next basket in the workflow. The Smart Connection Pro panel automatically updates its status icons as copy and design status of a document or an article changes and can be configured to show just the information needed at any moment. This prevents editors from being distracted from their work by interface elements that change, yet are irrelevant to their work.
With its configuration tool, Smart Connection Pro allows users to tailor the levels of hierarchy to work intuitively within the workflow. Stages of the workflow can be renamed as needed and as a project evolves.
With Smart Connection Pro the one file per document limitation is removed. Instead, have as many or as few text elements per file as needed. Smart Connection Pro enables one file per article, per spread, or per publication. For example, to accommodate flexibility in a newspaper or statutes in a legislatory publication, a user might opt for a one file per article approach. On the other hand, if publishing a manual, one file per chapter might be preferred. The possibilities are virtually endless.
Features:
• integrated workflow solution;
• publication-oriented workflow;
• publication-oriented interface;
• assigning stories;
• editors can work on contents while the designer is working on layout;
• Write-to-fit functionality with Adobe InCopy including revision tracking, editorial notes, and text statistics;
• integrated direct messaging;
• thumbnail view;
• overview of work with the SCPro placed element palette;
• protection features provide safeguard from errors;
• flexible publication structure to fit any publisher;
• scalable, cross-platform solution;
• automated workflow; and
• configuration tool.

The best way to improve your hyphenation in Adobe InDesign CS2 and InCopy CS2 is with Smart Hyphen, an intelligent syllable technology of the *TALO language modules. Smart Hyphen offers tremendous improvements to the hyphenation provided by InDesign and InCopy, including mumerous additional languages that are not supported by InDesign and InCopy, superior hyphenation compared to the standard hyphenator, an almost human understanding of the languages it supports, and all languages are maintained and updated. These improvements result in better text composition, allowing the quality of your publication to improve due to the superior hyphenation and improved text flow and white-space management.
With state-of-the-art technology, Smart Hyphen has a much better understanding of all the languages it supports. The standard InDesign and InCopy hyphenators uses linear pattern comparison to determine possible hyphenations, that lead to the possibility of erroneous hyphenations spread evenly throughout the words. Smart Hyphen is based on the award-winning *TALO language technology, that uses refined linguistic principles with language-specific models. The model is different for each language and also incorporates any special cases, such as spelling changes and language-specific peculiarities such as elision hyphenations (Italian), silents (muettes in French) and long vowel groups in verbs.
New words are also hyphenated correctly with the *TALO technology — very convenient for magazines and newspapers that have to deal with new words on a daily basis.
Although exceptions are rarely needed, Smart Hyphen's exception functions even support special hyphenations, a tremendous advantage for all languages that have a large number of compounds. Exceptions can be stored both at a global (server) level as well as at the user level.

Smart Layout - WoodWing USA 032-002 - InCopy Plug-in
Smart Layout purchase includes a 1-year Support and Maintenance agreement, which includes unlimited technical support and free upgrades through the term of the agreement.
With Smart Layout the productivity of InDesign reaches a new level with the introduction of article structure to the contents of InDesign documents and additional intelligent behavior and automation.
Smart Layout is beneficial for any InDesign user working with multiple frames or multiple columns per article, such as magazines, newspapers, catalogues, and database publishers. Smart Layout introduces features to InDesign that were previously only found in expensive, proprietary, high-end layout systems.
Smart Layout brings structure to InDesign documents by incorporating the article concept. An article consists of several elements such as the head, intro, and body. Without Smart Layout, these are separate items; with Smart Layout the article is a single page item that contains all of the elements.
Additionally, Smart Layout's intelligence and automation yields a productivity improvement and a better, more consistent publication. Changing the layout just before deadline has never been this easy. Just a few actions and Smart Layout will do the rest. Smart Layout's smooth integration with InDesign allows new users to learn Smart Layout very easily.
Smart Layout CS v3.1 adds the Article Concept (the ability to combine all of a page's elements into one) to InDesign, just as earlier versions of Smart Layout did, but also offers many new features including:
• users can now select a group of page items and convert them to Smart Layout articles with one click;
• with automatic XML mapping, users don't have to understand XML or even think about using it;
• reformat content so it fits its elements and resize an article so all columns are leveled, with one click;
• InCopy users can now create structured articles with multiple components from scratch;
• use an article that was created in InCopy (with multiple components), place it in InDesign and all pieces of content will flow into the correct elements;
• allows for different-width gutters inside an article;
• when creating articles with the smart layout tool, new items flow around items already on the spread;
• smart elements are any items, including images, that as a group become a Smart Layout item which then behave as a single item;
• smart resizing minimizes the number of steps necessary to resize an article and its elements via automatic sizing, positioning, and resizing of individual columns;
• smart grid provides Smart Layouts with their own grid, including both the column and baseline grid;
• change the number of columns quickly using shortcut keys;
• smart borders give items their own border and fill;
• separate border elements are no longer necessary, saving valuable time close to deadline;
• smart library enables the standard library functionality of InDesign to be used in concert with Smart Layout to have a powerful shape library;
Smart Speller - WoodWing USA 032-010 - InCopy Plug-in
Smart Speller is a powerful enhanced spelling Plug-in for Adobe InDesign and InCopy incorporating the technology from the language institute *TALO, and offering tremendous improvements to the spelling provided by InDesign and InCopy. By incorporating *TALO's technology into Smart Speller, it is now the industry's most powerful, efficient, and versatile speller.
In addition to delivering enhanced spelling functionality for languages that are available in standard InDesign and InCopy, Smart Speller also covers a wide variety of additional languages, including Bulgarian, Croatian, Australian English, and many others.
Features:
• Smart Speller supplies the user with proper alternatives no matter what the language;
• lexicons are at least four times larger than usual and include recent idioms; some languages have lexicons over or near three million words;
• basic principles of the *TALO modules guarantee an economical spelling procedure;
• built to immediately and automatically learn unknown words, while outdated words are forgotten; and
• switch between languages even during a spelling session.
Smart Speller follows the rules and exceptions of spelling governed by leading academies, therefore abbreviations, punctuation marks, fixed formats, financial data (such as dates and numbers), and internet addresses are controlled during the spelling process.
Smart Speller has a memory that contains words such as the user's mistakes or unique, differently spelled words. The function of this memory for a whole company or separated business units could be department style; words are collected in separated lexicons for each user or server.

vjoon Notes Manager for InDesign and InCopy - vjoon GmbH 007-008 - InCopy Plug-in
The vjoon Notes Manager plug-in will totally change the way you work with inline notes in Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy. Editorial staff will communicate more efficiently using notes, as displaying and navigating notes is made easier and faster. The plug-in now offers the possibility of using 5 different languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and user guides are available in the five languages too.
The standard InDesign and InCopy notes feature enables users to create and edit in-line notes for their own reference or in order to exchange information with other users. The Adobe notes palette displays one note at a time and allows the user to browse notes in the order in which they appear in the text.
vjoon Notes Manager enhances this functionality with its own palette. vjoon Notes Manager offers filters for displaying notes created by a specific user, or notes edited within a certain timeframe. Search results can be sorted in multiple steps by author, note content, date of creation and date of last modification, offering a quick overview of all relevant notes. You can see at a glance, for example, what notes your co-worker added to the file the previous day.
What is more, vjoon Notes Manager also makes it easier to navigate within the document. Clicking on an entry in the vjoon Notes Manager palette selects the corresponding notes anchor on the page and vice versa. Double clicking an entry in the vjoon Notes Manager palette will open the standard Adobe notes palette where you can edit or delete the note, or convert it to text.
In an editorial environment, where several people collaborate on the same text over time, vjoon Notes Manager will quickly become an indispensible tool for reliably and efficiently exchanging suggestions and instructions.
vjoon Notes Manager is designed to fully support workflows based on Adobe’s InCopy Bridge plug-ins as well as vjoon’s K4 Publishing System.
The vjoon Overset Manager plug-in for Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy CS2 & CS3 and CS4 gives you complete control over text length and text overset, enabling you to count, display, edit and print overset text. vjoon Overset Manager is the ideal tool for everybody dealing with text-intensive files on a regular basis. The plug-in now offers the possibility of using 5 different languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and user guides are available in the five languages too.
With vjoon Overset Manager you can choose to automatically show or hide overset frames for the selected text flow or all text flows on the page. The overset frames are attached to the bottom right corner of the text frame or to the last text frame of a text flow. They are highlighted with a light yellow background colour. The background colour makes it easy to spot instances of text overset on an InDesign file, thus helping to prevent costly mistakes.
By counting placeholder text, vjoon Overset Manager allows you to determine the exact text length needed to fill a text flow in order to give correct instructions to an editor. vjoon Overset Manager calculates text length by number of characters, words, lines and manuscript lines. The length of manuscript lines is set in the Overset Manager preferences. By setting the preferences to a decimal number, e.g. 5.5, it is also possible to calculate the number of standard words needed to fill the text frame.
You can measure the length of text in the current selection, text column or text flow, and see values for the text that fits in the text frames as well as for overset text, separately. The vjoon Overset Manager palette allows you to measure the current text selection against the remaining amount of overset text for easy and precise copyfitting.
vjoon Overset Manager can be used with InDesign or with InCopy. While InCopy provides editors with statistical information and allows to edit overset text in Galley and Story view, vjoon now brings these important features to the Layout view, where the editor can see the exact design as it appears on the InDesign page.
