Headers & Contents XTn creates running headers and/or footers and indices in QuarkXPress. The headers and/or footers data can be marked in three different ways:• defining QuarkXPress style sheets for the page headers and at the same time dedicate those style sheets to a header or footer level (this is the most common method of marking text);• tagging the data using special markers (these markers will be automatically hidden using the Headers XTn palette so as not to affect the line endings of text and this method should be used if the headers data is a fragment of a paragraph); or• using the mouse and the Headers XTn palette (this is the most time-consuming method and not recommended for use to mark hundreds of entries).Headers XTn supports up to nine levels of running headers. On output, the levels will be updated automatically. The running headers and/or footers data can be formatted in many different ways, such as: make capitals, make lower case, and make small caps, just to name a few. Invisible text can be hidden within body text and used to generate running headers and/or footers.Headers XTn can abbreviate running headers in order to produce a common syntax where only the first three or four characters of an entry are included in the header. Headers XTn supports the most common output styles such as the first or the last entry of a column, but also it repeats the previous entry of the last page if there is no new entry of the first line of the actual page. Additionally, the header and/or footer information can come from the left and right of a spread rather than from a single page.Contents XTn supports up to nine levels within a table of contents. On output, the levels are indented in order to produce a structured table of contents automatically.Contents XTn is perfectly suited to generate complete subject indices. Index entries can be marked by selecting the entry and then clicking the Contents XTn palette or generated using markers. Contents XTn supports up to nine levels of entries so complex indices can be generated automatically.Contents XTn supports visible and invisible entries. If words are to be spelled differently in the index or are not part of the actual text, but must be included in the index, hide these words in the text flow and Contents XTn will export the text to index data. Contents XTn can automatically sort an index on output while sorting using different international alphabet criteria.Manufacturer: ESS, GmbH

Prompt QuarkXPress to swap high-resolution for low-resolution graphics, even without OPI.HiResCollector XT is easy to use. Just choose two folders in the XTensions module’s preferences, one for the high-resolution images and the other for the low-resolution images. Then generate an EPS or collect for output, and HiResCollector XT prompts the user for permission to substitute the corresponding high-resolution image for each image the document has in the low-resolution folder. A floating palette enables the user to switch folders while working and check which folder is currently specified. As an added bonus, HiResCollector XT expands the get picture and picture usage dialogs to display the end of long, cryptic OPI file names. HiResCollector XT is totally integrated with QuarkXPress.Manufacturer: Automatic Software
HNJ Engine is a multifaceted technology for composing files and building pages in QuarkXPress. It runs in local or server mode, and is used to produce newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and business forms. It handles text and images, and can build pages in either single file or batch mode. It is available as a separate product for end users or as license technology with its own API for OEM developers. For newspaper and magazine production, HNJ Engine has been tightly integrated with Microsoft Word allowing editors to copy fit in confidence knowing that the HNJ results seen in Microsoft Word are precisely those that would have been produced in QuarkXPress. Useful features include copy-fit feedback, head fit, story previews, notes, and an extensive tagging language.HNJ Engine is ideal for catalog production. Tagged-database elements are linked to specific geometries in QuarkXPress templates, and HNJ Engine's batch-import facility allows pages to be populated dynamically.Recent applications of HNJ Engine have focused on the internet. HNJ Engine can be integrated with a web server and accessed using TCP/IP. It can be used to take snapshots of QuarkXPress pages and turn them into images that can be displayed in a web browser, and, in order to provide increased flexibility, there is a technique for users to interact with the actual QuarkXPress pages. In this mode, the user may click in a live area of the image displayed in the web browser, which causes an editing window to appear. Users may type text and enter typographical tags. When the image is composed, the edits are transmitted to the web server, where the appropriate QuarkXPress document is located and opened by HNJ Engine. The changes are made in QuarkXPress, and an updated image is returned to the user.Manufacturer: North Atlantic Publishing Systems

The reason some designers shy away from using templates is they assume all templates are finished designs: boilerplate layouts complete with photographs of people shaking hands add a phone number and address and send it to the printer. They are a feeble attempt to remove the designers from the equation. They miss the point that clients NEED what we bring to the table they want something UNIQUE! Imagine going to all the trouble and expense of writing, producing, and printing a brochure and finding out a competitor is using the exact same boilerplate design. The Ideabook templates are something else entirely. They offer a detailed framework for finishing, not a rigid layout. The Image Aligner XTensions module aligns any two pictures in a QuarkXPress document. This tool is useful for aligning drop shadows or outlines to existing images. In addition to aligning the frames of the picture boxes, the XTensions module will also perfectly align the coordinates of the images inside the boxes. There is also an option to automatically group the aligned picture boxes, or to swap the ordering of the selected boxes in the chain (similar to bring to front and send to back, but limited to the currently selected group of boxes).Manufacturer: Meadows Information Systems, LLC

An XTensions module for creating indices across one or more QuarkXPress documents. IndeXTension enables the user to insert index markers throughout documents, manually or automatically. Whether single entries or in multilevel subcategories, IndeXTension puts the user in control.Smart marking recognizes titles and proper names and suggests the preferred entry style. John Smith lists under the Ss without additional keyboarding. The Wonkatania settles near the end of list next to its owner, Mr. Wonka. But control isn't sacrificed for convenience, IndeXTension is intelligent enough to know that Led Zepplin is not one of the Zepplin brothers and can steer it back to the Ls with a single click.Automatic index marking balances speed with control. Find and mark individual occurrences interactively or mark every appearance in the document. Load a list of keywords and their entries and mark them all with a single click it's all up to the user. The ability to hide and show markers in just a part of a document speeds working with extremely long documents and allows the user to focus on the task at hand. Additional tools allow logging of all index markers and their pages, or diagnosis and removal of markers which may have been damaged when editing. New formatting options use paragraph and character style sheets to format entries. Optional capitalization, header characters, and spacing format the index each time it is generated or updated.Manufacturer: Vision’s Edge, Inc.
