One of the most popular XTensions modules on the market today, Resize XT scales a group of page elements to a specified percentage just as is done in an illustration program. Scale proportionally keeping the horizontal and vertical ratio even, or amorphically choosing two different percentages for fitting the page elements into a design. ShapeMaker provides a new way to control and create an almost infinite number of unique and useful shapes within QuarkXPress. Shapes are indispensable in almost any design, whether it's a simple rectangle or a complicated silhouette. When QuarkXPress introduced Beziér curves in version 4 they opened a whole world of new shape possibilities, and ShapeMaker takes full advantage of this — no need to switch to an illustration application for those complex box shapes, it can all be done within QuarkXPress.Shapes can be combined and they can also be manipulated to further serve the designer's needs. Once a shape is created, this is often only the beginning. Implementing the ingenious way QuarkXPress generates shapes, a box can be switched into a text path or vice versa.Experiment and explore this vast universe of new designs. A basic list of shapes that can be created doesn't do ShapeMaker justice — for each type of shape there are almost infinite variations possible — but to whet the appetite, here's the short list: waves, zigzags, polygons, stars, double stars, swirls, flowers, quasars, polygons, golden rectangles, double squares, golden spirals, archimedian spirals, and various odd shapes. Each shape can be turned into a text box, a picture box, or a path so the uses are endless.Wave shapes are found throughout nature from water and clouds to a vibrating string. Similarity XT is a search-and-replace engine that gathers items sharing one or more similar attributes and applies global changes to any of the matches found. Similarity XT’s power comes from being able to construct limitless search queries with conditions and restrictions. For example, find items where the color is red, shade is less than 50%, and frame is not solid.To create a search query, choose and combine any of the 50 attributes available with conditionals such as IS, IS NOT, and IS GREATER THAN, among others. Similarity XT returns all the matches found at once, showing in advance how many and which items match the search query. Make global changes to some or all of these items with a click of the mouse. No other search engine gives this much control, speed, and flexibility.Similarity XT works this way: select an item with one or more attributes to search for; once items with the designated attributes are found, any changes made to the original item will be recorded; then in a single step, apply any of these recorded changes to the items found.Similarity XT finds all items matching the search criteria immediately. For each entry, see what kind of item it is (box, line, or table cell), its page, and the number of changes performed to that item so far.Select which items to mark for global changes and limit the changes to, say, pages one through five only, or perhaps experiment with changes to a few items before implementing a global change.Optionally show an item found in the search and view all the attributes currently applied to that item.Once similar items are gathered, Similarity XT automatically records changes made to the original item. Sonar Bookends is a powerful index generator capable of producing both an index and a table of contents for a variety of applications (e.g., PDF, Microsoft Word 97 and 98, QuarkXPress, and PageMaker). Several types of indices can be produced, from a basic index to a multilevel index. The index can include chapter and file names, and can be of a single file or an entire folder. Cross-reference information can also be included.There are three basic types of indices that can be produced by Sonar Bookends:• Word frequency — a fast, effortless index based on how often words appear in the documents being indexed (words which are common, and therefore relatively unimportant, are automatically eliminated).• Word/phrase list — based on a user-supplied list of words and phrases stored in a text-only file; each word or phrase is indexed. Entries can incorporate advanced-indexing techniques such as Boolean operations and wild cards. Since the word/phrase list is a text-only file, it can be generated in a variety of ways. For example, the list can be created using a word processor, downloaded from another computer, exported from a database, and so on.• Proper Noun — Sonar Bookends can find and index proper nouns. Using capitalization and punctuation rules, Sonar Bookends can determine which words make up a proper noun. Proper nouns which occur too many times (above a user-defined maximum frequency) are automatically eliminated.The three methods can be mixed and matched to produce a final index. For example, a word-frequency list can be combined with a proper-noun list, discarding any unwanted words and proper nouns. The list could also be augmented by typing in additional phrases. The final word/phrase list would then be given to Sonar Bookends for indexing. Sonar Bookends Fnote is a footnote XTensions module for QuarkXPress designed to make footnotes and endnotes quick and easy to create and manage.Footnotes (which appear at the bottom of a page) and endnotes (which appear at the end of a document) are linked to their references using a labeling system. Thus, a reference to a footnote can be created long before the actual footnote or endnote has been added. Alternatively, footnotes and endnotes can be created before there are any references to them. All that ultimately matters is that the label on both the note and its reference are the same.Sonar Bookends Fnote dynamically numbers all footnotes and endnotes. The note numbers have a style sheet applied to them and then the numbers are placed in the appropriate locations in the body of the text and in front of the notes themselves. Sonar Bookends Fnote assigns one style sheet to notes and a different style sheet to note references. This allows the formatting for all occurrences of notes or their references or both to be modified by simply changing the definition of one or both style sheets.The footnotes and endnotes are also sorted automatically so that their order matches the order of the references in the text. The numbering system for both footnotes and endnotes can be set individually, as well. By default, footnotes use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3), while endnotes use Roman numerals (i, ii, iii).Anytime a document is changed, all that is necessary is to tell Sonar Bookends Fnote to update the footnote numbers. In seconds, all of the document's footnote and endnote numbers will be adjusted and the notes sorted as necessary. There are many ways to create a professional-looking index, table of contents, or site index for a web site, and there are a number of automation techniques, but none compare to the processing and text control of Virginia Systems' line of tools.
Sonar Bookends Sequence is a new XTensions module that automatically numbers figures and tables in a QuarkXPress document.Sonar Bookends Sequence makes working with figures and tables easy. Simply insert or remove a figure or table, prompt Sonar Bookends Sequence to update the sequence numbers, and then in seconds all existing figures and tables (destinations) are completely renumbered. Just as importantly, all locations where figures or tables are referenced (reference) are updated, too.To insert a figure or table reference or destination, place the cursor where the figure or table number is to be inserted and select either reference or destination from the menu. Sonar Bookends Sequence uses labels to associate figure and table references with destinations. A label can be selected from a popup list of currently defined labels or a new label can be entered manually. Destination types are set to be either figure or table because figures and tables are numbered independently of each other.A document can consist of one file or many files. Figure and table numbers can go sequentially from file to file, or they can restart at one for each file.
